More on the Google Chrome OS…

MWahl | July 20, 2009 | 9:56 pm

There has been a lot of coverage on the announcement of google operating system. I have not seen a screen shot of the proposed operating system, but I have to wonder is there a need for this, haven’t we heard or seen this type of idea in the past? For me the ideas of a computer booting to an Internet browser doesn’t sound all that appealing. I know that there are a lot of apps online such as GMail, google docs, etc. I know that there are users out there that will still have a desire to use locally ran apps. I know also that the amount of storage needed locally is diminishing as the amount of storage in the cloud is capable of hosting all sorts of user data. There is no question that the Chrome  OS will be something to run and experiment with, but with Win 7 around the corner, Apples OSX, ubuntu, SUSE, it seems hard to believe there could be room for another OS. Goggles efforts in my opinion would be better spent working on developing a common platform for Windows and OSX to coexist on.
