Always have at least two copies…maybe three
MWahl | July 20, 2009 | 9:46 pmHave you ever made a small change and found yourself needing to go back? Today it is fairly simple to use operating system backups to perform incremental or full backups. These are great, but if you lose the operating system you might be out of luck.
For the most part, I tend to build the operating system, make a base image( see my post on using drive snapshot with winpe), which I usually store locally on the server, and upload a copy via ftp to an off site location. There are also applications available(syncback) that can upload only changes made and upload those via ftp. This are usually small changes such as gallery updates, database updates, and they can be scheduled to happen when you are at work or asleep. Depending on the amount of disk space available, you could even use external storage or nas device, having a copy of the system state can be a life saver. With windows server 2008, this type of backup is actually created as a virtual hard drive.
